Pastor Benedict Eghan, the resident minister of Pentecost International Worship Centre-Tesano and Personal Assistant to the chairman of the Church of Pentecost, has entreated Christians to stand to be counted in their Christian lives. He stated that gifts are given to people for specific purposes. “The moment the purpose of the gift is not served; it becomes irrelevant to its recipients,” he added. He made these profound statements in a sermon preached at the Prestige and Adom services of the PIWC Tesano on 30th September 2018.
By way of illustration, he revealed that David did not just serve his generation but more importantly, he served God’s purpose in his generation (Acts 13:36), and Christians today have been given the same mandate. It is a shame if a gift doesn’t serve its intended purpose, Pastor Eghan stated. The resident minister again pointed out that, just as Jesus Christ is a gift to the world, believers have also become gifts unto the world and must not lose focus of such purpose. Firstly, you are a gift to the church, and then a gift to the world at large, he added.
Continuing his message, Pastor Eghan said that Nehemiah who was a cupbearer of the King was very passionate about the things of God and even as he served, his heart still grieved for Jerusalem. When the strong walls of the city of Jerusalem fell, the people of God were taken into captivity. Nehemiah after hearing such news was dearly troubled and helped rebuild the walls of Jerusalem thus serving the purpose of God. “The end effect of your profession (occupation) should be ministry; it must draw people to God and draw God to people” he restated.
He again emphasized that in order to serve the purpose of God in our generation, Christians must be willing to die for what we believe, otherwise, it’s not worth believing. If suicide bombers are able to sacrifice for the course of their religion, Christians must also be willing to do extra for Jesus. Through acts of service, financial support, fellowship, etc., the church will grow and attain higher heights. The time to sacrifice is now!
Pastor Benedict concluded by urging Christians to allow themselves to be used by God, to build the Church rather than destroy it; because the worst thing a believer can do is to destroy the church. “Don’t let anyone draw away from God because of your lifestyle and misconduct”, Pastor Eghan told the church.
