In his exhortation, Pastor Benedict Eghan reminded the congregation about the blood of Christ that was shed at cross of Calvary which gives a new identity. By the blood, we have become a holy nation, royal priesthood. We were not the people of God but by the blood, we have now become the people of God! (1Peter 2:9)
By the blood of Jesus Christ, we have hope.
Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper. He also instructed the disciples and for that matter the church to always do this in remembrance of Him (Jesus).
Pastor Benedict Eghan shared some significance of the Lord’s Supper as;
✔A moment we celebrate the Love of God. In John 3:16, God sent His beloved Son to die for our sins because of love. By this love, God has held us to himself though we have availed ourselves to the things of the world.
✔A moment to remind ourselves that we have a relationship with God. God is our Father and we are His children. He knows everyone by name and knows our need. It may seem God is far but He is closest to us and our needs because of the blood that was shed. The relationship that we have with God is embedded in a covenant sealed with the blood. If God did not deny us of His beloved Son, why would he deny you of your need?
✔ The Lord’s Supper is a moment we remind ourselves that Jesus will come again (1 John 3:3). In the partaking of the Supper, it should be the time to reflect and make amends required for the coming of Christ and in doing so avail yourself for the work of God.
✔A moment we share fellowship with one another. As Christians we all have a common testimony; we were condemned for hell but for the cross, we have become part of the household of Christ. The man of God pleaded with the congregation that we should always make peace and forgive one another.
To end his sermon, Pastor Eghan stated that we were condemned, not counted among the children of God but the because of the Cross, we have become part of a bigger family in the house of God and identified with a common name – Sons and Daughters of God.
